Network Engineer / Technical Specialist

Asda are recruiting for a Network Engineer as part of our Infrastructure team within Technology. You will be responsible for hands-on technical build, test & commissioning of network infrastructure as well as producing low level network designs and support documentation.

Scope of Role:

• Supporting Infrastructure project managers in the development & implementation of our network infrastructure to support our project Business Plan
• Supporting the wider Project Delivery team through the deployment of the network technologies required to enable next generation retail applications
• Monitoring, responding to alerts and third line support to the Service teams when required
• Providing networking technical advice and expertise to project teams
• Communication of impacting issues to the Senior Technical Specialist / Team Manager

Main Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

• Commissioning of new IT hardware / software (primarily Cisco)
• Work on projects to deliver the technology required by the project.
• Perform network impact analysis where required to ensure business initiatives are understood & are delivered successfully
• Perform system administration where required
• Provide robust connectivity to key vendors as well as internal locations
• Monitor system performance and availability
• Monitor capacity and highlight any deviation from predicted usage levels
• Refresh ageing assets in accordance with the agreed asset renewal strategy
• Identify root causes of issues and formulate an appropriate fix
• Ensure all work performed complies with Asda / Wal-Mart standards and policies
• Suggest developments to the technology area to lower costs or increase productivity.
• Produce agreed documentation to enable smooth transition into service

• Cisco accredited depending on experience - CCNA or above

• Cisco WLAN v7.0 and above
• Cisco EIGRP & BGP knowledge & LISP understanding
• Cisco DMVPN & GetVPN
• Cisco Nexus, Stackwise & VRF experience
• Cisco Security ACE, ASA & ISE
• Cisco MQC, CUCM Voice Aware
• Motorola WLAN v4.3, v5.4 and above
