Buying Manager - Nappies, Wipes, Baby Toiletries and Nursery

About the role:

We have an amazing opportunity within the Baby trading team for a Buying Manager. The Baby market is one of Asda's most important categories with a mixture of well known brands and a developed Own label presence. It is a highly competitive market with Asda leading the way in overall market share in a +£400m PA category.

The Buyer for this role will be responsible for buying Nappies, Wipes, Baby Toiletries and Nursery with line management responsibility for managing & coaching a direct report. You would be working with some of the biggest brands in the world (P&G, Kimberly Clark, JJ) as well as small suppliers with innovative products. This role would suit an experienced Buying Manager looking for a category they can really get their teeth into, and someone looking for their final role before stepping up into a Senior Buying Manager role.

You will need to have a natural ability to negotiate with big brands, collaborate and nurture smaller suppliers, the desire to drive Own brand growth, have the ability to multi-task, forward plan and work cross functionally.

The Ins and Outs:
  • Developing and execute strategies to deliver sales, profit and market share
  • Building a range and pricing strategy to deliver shopper needs and lead on price competitiveness
  • Lead suppliers to improve OL quality, innovation and sales participation
  • Deliver JBPs to grow branded market share and profitability
  • Engage cross functionally to align all stakeholders in delivery of the plans
  • Demonstrate leadership within the POD to support special projects
  • Leading and developing an ambitious trading assistant

What you'll need:
  • A proven track record in buying
  • Ability to communicate well and engage and lead others
  • A sound understanding of the customer and a passion for great customer service
  • A passion for driving the own label agenda
  • Commercial experience
  • The ability to manage and influence a diverse global supplier base
  • Experience negotiating
  • Analytical skills and ability to make the complex simple
