Category Technical Manager – Poultry

To enable ASDA to become Britain’s most trusted retailer by working
with our business partners, to lead and deliver due diligence and brand
requirements in our accountable categories and throughout our teams.

The ins & outs:

Promotes a Culture of Customer & brand integrity focus:

* Managing the delivery of product (where applicable) and supplier
management across ASDA supply base
* Organizing and chairing internal and external supplier review
meetings.
* Manage the Technical review process, engaging business partners from
start to end in line with our policy
* Ensure rigorous supplier management using agreed processes for
customer complaints, serious incidents, testing exceptions, withdrawals
and recalls, Environmental Health Office (EHO) and Trading Standard
Institute (TSI) referrals, scorecard metrics and responsible sourcing
to minimize the risk of regulatory challenge or adverse brand damage
* Supporting the delivery supplier communications – e.g. supplier
conference / training programs
* Work out of hours to support incident management, including
participation on the Emergency Incident Centre (EIC) on call rota as
required

Enable Business Strategy:

* Be the category strategic lead for technical and where applicable –
quality in your accountable areas, working cross functionally to
support the senior manager to deliver the overall technical strategy
* Conduct strategic risk assessment reviews of the supply base in
conjunction with strategic category plans
* Ensure all visits and audits are completed and communicated to
category as required after following a consistent, robust and
documented risk assessment
* All documents for due diligence are correctly stored on our Technical
database. All actions will be risk rated and closed off within agreed
timescales
* Lead and deliver technical strategies in line with your business plan
* Work as an enabler to your business partners, adding value to
category to through knowledge of your supply base
* Support availability by demonstrating your participation in Supplier
strategies – with robust plans for decline suppliers

Protect and enhance the brand:

* Ensure all specifications in the Technical database have a Risk
Assessment, agreed with your business partners and actioned,
communicated and activated as required
* Maintain Hive supplier active visibility
* Support the development, engagement (internal and external) and
delivery of policies or processes relevant to your category or total
own brand
* Active participation in Horizon Scanning (internal / external) of
category area, investigating anomalies, supporting development of
policy and processes to mitigate private brand exposure to risk
* Protect and enhance the technical brand by working collaboratively
with your supply base and adding value to the category through
technical innovation

What you’ll need:

As an experienced Technical Manager, ideally in fresh meat, you will
have experience of leading complex food categories within retail, FMCG
or Manufacturing environment. A natural problem solver and credible
leader, you will engage and influence both internal and external
stakeholders by demonstrating your professional knowledge and area of
expertise

* Degree or equivalent in relevant product or scientific area
* A solid background gained within a similar technical role,
supplemented with extensive industry experience in category
* Understanding of technical and manufacturing experience including BRC
and HACCP
* Computer literate
* Commercial and customer awareness
* Ability to prioritise and flex to business needs
* Proven track record of result delivery & decision making
* The ability to “make a difference” with a commercial instinct
* Build strong relationships with key supplier
