Purchasing Manager - Nationwide

Job Type: Full Time

Reporting to: Head of UK Purchasing

Place of Work: UK Home Based, with travel to central London at least once per week required


Taking ownership for all procurement activity on a broad range of categories across food & beverage, consumables and packaging; the Purchasing Manager will be responsible for developing and owning relationships with key suppliers, spearheading innovation and continually ensuring we have the best products in our business, at the best price. You will support the Head of UK Purchasing in the delivery of the Purchasing Strategy across both our Restaurant and Retail channels in the UK and the wider Group, and will be heavily involved in shaping and achieving YO!’s sustainability plans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Driving cost savings and efficiencies in all categories
  • Successful delivery of business projects through effective procurement measures
  • Supporting the Head of UK Purchasing in the shaping and execution of the Purchasing Strategy
  • Liaising with the Supply Chain Manager to minimise stock risk
  • Working alongside Marketing and Food Development teams in delivering exciting, first-to-market innovation
  • Sourcing in line with our Sustainability policies and ensuring suppliers are aligned

Key Requirements

  • Source all NPD requirements at best price and consistently benchmark existing products to achieve reduced spend
  • Continuous EPD to ensure optimum value on all spec attributes
  • Use market knowledge and expertise to draft and develop Category plan for each key area, detailing and executing sourcing strategy
  • Identify areas for improvement in supply base to continually drive performance and business results
  • Source new suppliers based on business project requirements
  • Negotiate and agree supply contract terms
  • Run end-to-end tender processes for specific categories
  • Responsibility for set-up and internal comms of new products, and existing product admin
  • Issue Purchasing updates to sites and Head Office
  • Ensure all products are sourced in line with internal sustainability policies
  • Maintain and build supplier relationships across all areas of YO! business
  • Liaise with Supply Chain Manager to ensure agreed service levels and KPI’s are achieved
  • Assist Head of UK Purchasing in identifying and achieving Group Purchasing synergies

You are/have...

  • 3 years+ experience of Purchasing, Procurement, Buying
  • Track record of cost savings across several spend categories
  • Proven knowledge of logistics and supply chain functionality
  • Previous food experience and a good understanding of food technology
  • High level of numeracy and literacy
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Able to influence and are comfortable presenting to internal and external stakeholders
  • Able to demonstrate excellent planning, organisational and time management skills
  • Able to work in, and adapt to a rapidly changing environment
  • Confident with remote working and able to work on own initiative
