The Embankment Pub, Bedford is officially a great place to work

The Peach Pub Company, which runs The Embankment Pub, Bedford, has again been named in The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to work.

Coming in at number 48, this is the third time the company has been ranked amongst the companies in Britain that employees rate as being the best in the country to work for.

Speaking to the Bedford Independent, Head Chef Simon Harris says the accolade is totally deserved: “They are such a people led business that you want to keep doing more and more for them because of all the support you get.

“Any help you need they’re there, any guidance you need they’re there. There’s such a family feel to it as well. You’re cared about, you’re not just a number.”

Meanwhile, Assistant Manager, Tess Chaffey, says she wouldn’t have a career if it wasn’t for Peach: “Every opportunity they can offer they do offer… as soon as I decided I wanted to do more they gave me every opportunity they could to develop my skills.”

The ‘100 Best Companies to Work For’ list compiled by The Sunday Times aims to celebrate the businesses and organisations that strive to make a difference and recognise that success begins with the team and being a good employer.

Peach managing director Hamish Stoddart says this has been their ethos since they began the company in 2002: “When we started, we had one pub and a handful of people running it.

“We made a success of that pub but we knew that to build something sustainable long-term, we needed to put our people first and share success with them.

“So we really focussed on our teams, investing in training to help people fulfil their potential. We also created a set of principles we work to, such as ‘encouraging individuality’ and ‘serve the good stuff.”

The Sunday Times survey asks employees, who remain anonymous, questions on training, wellbeing, satisfaction and leadership.

Peach Pubs received 77% for how they support employees’ personal growth and 86% for the business’ strong principles.
